One of the latest additions in cosmetic dentistry is laser teeth whitening. Recent survey by American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry showed that most people like to have whiter teeth. It’s because whiter teeth can make one look younger and more attractive.

Reasons for discoloration

The following are the most common causes for teeth discoloration / stains:

  • Coffee, Tea and other beverages
  • Smoking
  • Poor dental hygiene
  • Medication used for hypertension and nervous disorders
  • Ageing
How do Laser teeth whitening work?

Laser teeth whitening is a cosmetic dentistry procedure. The procedure involves placing a whitening/bleaching gel on your teeth. The active ingredient in the whitening gel is activated using a laser beam for faster and effective results.

Laser teeth whitening vs. traditional methods

When compared to the traditional methods, laser teeth whitening differs in several ways. Some of the added advantages are:

  • Relatively short procedure – hence lesser appointments
  • Noticeable results within a single whitening session
  • Remarkable results than those at home products
  • Reduced risks – patient does not have to use any bleaching kit at home
Follow up

Though effective and faster results are achieved through laser, teeth can be stained again by smoking, coffee, tea, and other beverages. So, you may need to schedule a follow up whitening session. Also some of the patients may experience sensitivity in the first few days after whitening. It will resolve gradually after few days.
